Melvin Vernon Mostek, 70, of Loup City, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2022, at Jennie M. Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church in Loup City. The Rev. Mark Maresh will celebrate the Mass. Inurnment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City. The rosary will be recited 10 a.m. Saturday at the church before the Mass.
Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
Peters Funeral Home of Loup City is assisting the family.
Vernon was born on May 18, 1951, at Loup City, the son of Melvin M. and Ellen M. (Wojtalewicz) Mostek. He attended District No. 61 country school, Loup City Public School and graduated from Loup City High School in 1969.
He was united to Marcella Jo Davis on Oct. 14, 1971, at St. Paul. To this union four children were born.
Over the years, Vernon farmed, worked for Consolidated Blender, Inc. in Darr, and worked as a mechanic in Gillette, WY. He later moved to Greeley, CO where he was employed at Timmerman Feedlot and Ghentz Automotive as a parts man. In 2014, he returned to the Loup City area, where he lived the rest of his life.
Vernon enjoyed riding motorcycles in his younger days, playing the guitar, listening to music and taking long adventurous walks and hikes.
He is survived by his children and spouses, Eric and Jennifer Mostek of Litchfield, Jason Mostek of Blue Hill, Adam and Jennifer Mostek of Hebron and Melodie Mostek of Nickerson, KS; twelve grandchildren and one great granddaughter; his mother, Ellen Mostek of Loup City; and siblings and spouses, Sharon Mostek of Ashton, Paulette and Curtis Fogg of Central City, Terry and Janelle Mostek of Ashton, Sharon and Grant Franckowiak of Loup City, Barbara and Rich Glines of Aurora, Lawrence and Kathleen Mostek of Loup City, Trish and Mark Hill of Arcadia, Garrett and Dora Mostek of Wood River, Chuck Mostek of Loup City, Janice and Alfred Hurt of Loup City, Ron Mostek of Stockham and Sheryl Curlo of Ashton.
He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin M. Mostek; brother, Kenneth Mostek; infant brother, Joseph Mostek; sister, Jessica Mostek; and sister-in-law, Patty Mostek.
