Timothy J. “Tim” Mathis, 49, of Fairfax, South Dakota, formerly of St. Libory, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017, at CHI Health Saint Francis in Grand Island, surrounded by his loving family.
Private family services will be held with inurnment in the St. Libory's Catholic Cemetery in St. Libory.
Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is assisting the family.
Tim was born on Nov. 17, 1967, at Grand Island, the son of Leon and Janice (Kipp) Mathis.
Tim grew up on the family farm west of St. Libory. He attended District 118 St. Libory School and graduated from St. Paul High School in 1986.
He lived in the St. Libory area and worked at Hornady Manufacturing in Grand Island for several years and then for Union Pacific Railroad. He later moved to Fairfax, South Dakota, where he lived the rest of his life.
Tim loved anything and everything associated with the great outdoors.
He is survived by his parents, Leon and Janice Mathis of Grand Island; brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Linda Mathis of St. Libory; sister and brother-in-law, Lisa and Daron Bean of St. Libory; nieces and nephews, Wade and Jessica Mathis of Lincoln, Abby and Jordan Gall of Clarkson and Jacie Bean of St. Libory; aunts and uncles, Kim and Brian Graviette of Hastings, Gary Mathis of Chapman, Dean Mathis of Grand Island and Sharon Mathis of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ernie Kipp, Helen and Robert Nowak, and Louis and Genevieve Mathis.
In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
