Rose was born on Jan. 5, 1933, at Osmond, the daughter of Leo and Mary (Loebe) Jilg.

The Jilg family later moved to Clarks, where she received her education, graduating from Clarks High School in 1951. She then worked for Mutual of Omaha from 1951 to 1954.

She was united in marriage to Phillip L. Beck on Nov. 25, 1954, at Clarks. To this union 10 children were born. The family moved to St. Paul in 1968, where they owned and operated Becks Bar until 1972. Rose and Phil later divorced.

In 1973, she went to work as a nurse’s aide at the Howard County Hospital. She worked there until her retirement in 1998.

Rose married Bill G. Irvine on May 24, 1976, at St. Paul. The couple lived on the farm until 1984, when they moved into St. Paul where they built a new home together. Rose helped Bill farm and manage their many rental properties in St. Paul and Grand Island.

Rose enjoyed quilting with the “Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Quilters" for the past 10 years. She loved these ladies very much and hated to miss a quilting day. She also enjoyed fishing, reading, crosswords and jigsaw puzzles, pulling the casino handles, good westerns, gardening and canning. But her greatest pride and joy was her family.

She is survived by her children and spouses, Anita and Jim Matejka of Oakland, IA, Barb and Terry Nielsen of St. Libory, Cecilia “Cece” and Darrel Gangwish of Juniata, Donna and Randy Hartzell of Juniata, Francis “Frank” and Connie Jo Beck of St. Paul, Gwen Erickson of Juniata, Howard and Penny Beck of St. Paul and Ida and Kevin Klein of St. Libory; stepchildren and spouses, Grace and Tom Cech of Fort Collins, CO, Virginia “Virg” Irvine of Grand Island and Sam and Cindy Irvine of St. Paul; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter; and siblings and spouses, Dorothy and Les Sheets of Centennial, CO, Ralph and Brenda Jilg of Silver Creek and Carol Cortinas of Omaha.
