Ronnie R. Vang, 69, of St. Paul, died Monday, April 18, 2011, at his home. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 28, 2011, at Peters Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Rev. Joel Rathbun will officiate. Mr. Vang chose to be cremated and have his ashes buried at sea by the United States Navy. Mr. Vang was born on May 1, 1941, at Wolbach, the son of Nels Stefhan and Rita (Kelley) Vang. He is survived by one brother, Fred Vang of Lincoln; and two sisters and one brother-in-law, Nancy Ebel of Waterloo, Iowa and Ruth and Ronald Mercer of Omaha. Ronnie grew up in Wolbach where he attended Wolbach Public Schools and was a 1958 graduate of Wolbach High School. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1958. He served in Germany and Turkey and was discharged in 1962. At that time he returned to Wolbach and became a carpenter and attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for two years. He worked in construction having helped build power plants in Sutherland, Grand Island and Hastings, as well as, shopping centers, banks and the St. Francis Medical Center. In 1986, he went into the United States Navy serving until 1995 as a Seabee Reservist. He moved to St. Paul in 1991 and worked at Keller’s Korner for a number of years before retiring. He had served as a St. Paul EMT since 1992. He enjoyed walking and reading. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dennis Vang. Memorials are suggested to the St. Paul EMT’s.
