Robert A. Holt

Robert A. Holt, 81, of St. Paul, died Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church in St. Paul. The Rev. Thomas Clark will officiate. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul. Visitation will be Friday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the church. Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is assisting the family. Mr. Holt was born on Nov. 24, 1936, in the Fish Creek area near Scotia, the son of Arthur F. and Elma E. (Bredthauer) Holt. In 1939, the family moved into Scotia. Bob attended country school until the 4th grade and then attended Scotia Public School and graduated from Scotia High School in 1954. In high school he played football, was on the track team and was involved in FFA. He attended the University of Nebraska – Lincoln for one year and then worked at the Omaha Stockyards for a year before returning to Scotia to farm. He was united in marriage to Marlene J. Svoboda on Dec. 21, 1958, at the First Presbyterian Church in St. Paul. He served in the Army National Guard of Nebraska from Oct. 19, 1958 to Oct. 18, 1962. He and Marlene lived and farmed north of St. Paul for many years. After retiring from the farm he worked for 10 years at Sam's Club in Grand Island. He was a longtime member of Christ Lutheran Church in St. Paul and a former member of the St. Paul Country Club. Bob loved the St. Louis Cardinals, having coffee at the north elevator in St. Paul and attending the athletic events of his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is survived by his wife, Marlene of St. Paul; children and spouses, Barb and Roger Dvorak of Wood River, Bill and Christal Holt of St. Paul; grandchildren, Matthew and Karee Dvorak of Doniphan, Michaela and Eric Jackson of Oxford and Brittany Holt of St. Paul; great grandchildren, Max Dvorak, Bryar Jackson and Bryant Jackson; brother and sister-in-law, Daryl and Betty Holt of Scotia; sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Darrel Cox of North Loup; brother-in-law, John Wall of Littleton, CO; and sister-in-law, Judi Samuelson of Palmer. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Derek Holt on July 20, 2014; sister and brother-in-law, Loradel and Robert Preston; sister-in-law, Katie Wall; and brother-in-law, Dan Samuelson. Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
