Randy L. Jurzenski

June 13, 1957 — February 16, 2014

Randy L. Jurzenski, 56, of Elba died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, at his home. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elba. The Rev. Ray Kosmicki will officiate. Private family inurnment will be at a later date in the Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul. Visitation will be one hour before time of service at the church. Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Jurzenski was born on June 13, 1957, at Grand Island, the son of Lavern L. and Doris M. (Wolfert) Jurzenski. He is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Angela Jurzenski of Vernon Hills, IL and Jessica and Geoff Putney of Lincoln; and one aunt and uncle, Susie Wolfert and Nick Pedersen of St. Paul. Randy grew up near St. Paul, later moving with his family to a farm near Farwell where he attended elementary school. The family later lived in the communities of Elba and Cotesfield, where he graduated from Elba High School in 1975. During high school he worked for Charlie Tuma and Alfred Novotny. He was united in marriage to Anita M. Schipman on Aug. 7, 1976, at Zion Lutheran Church in Worms. The couple lived in the Grand Island area until moving to Elba in 1982. Randy lived in Elba the rest of his life. Over the years he worked at Overhead Door and New Holland in Grand Island; owned and operated Jurzenski's Bar in Elba, which later added a repair shop; worked in sales for KAR Products, elevator manager of the Elba Co-Op and as a heavy equipment operator for the local landfill and Tri-County Sand & Gravel of Elba. He was baptized in the catholic faith, served on the Elba School board and was an active member of the Elba Fire Department and EMT's, of which he was a former captain. Randy enjoyed repairing cars and equipment and helping people with anything. He also enjoyed socializing and listening to polka music in his garage on Sundays. He loved John Wayne movies and driving in demolition derbies. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ronald Jurzenski. Memorials are suggested to the Elba Fire Department, Elba EMT's or to the family's choice.
