R. Lucille Janulewicz, 93, of Loup City, died Thursday, March 21, 2019, at Rose Lane Home in Loup City.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 30, 2019, at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. The Rev. Richard L. Piontkowski will celebrate the Mass. Cremation will take place following the Mass, with a private family inurnment, at the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City.
Visitation will be Friday, March 29, 2019, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the church, with a 6 p.m. vigil service.
Peters Funeral Home of Loup City is assisting the family.
R. Lucille was born on Sept. 3, 1925, in Loup City, the daughter of Ferdinand William and Rose Bertha (Schwaderer) Kuhl. She grew up in Wiggle Creek and later in Loup City, where she was a 1943 graduate of Loup City High School. After graduation she worked for the phone company in Loup City.
She was united in marriage to John R. “Jack” Janulewicz on April 25, 1947, in Loup City. The couple lived in Grand Island where Jack owned Janulewicz Construction and she also worked for the phone company for several years after their marriage.
In 1972, the couple moved to Sherman Lake near Loup City. For 11 years she also worked for Trotter's Grain & Fertilizer in Ashton and Farwell. Jack died Feb. 7, 1997, and Lucille continued to live at Sherman Lake until moving to Grand Island in 2006, where she resided at Francis Villas for a number of years. In May 2018, she returned to Loup City, where she lived at Rose Lane Home the rest of her life.
Lucille was a member of St. Josaphat's Catholic Church and its Council of Catholic Women. While living in Grand Island she was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and its CCW. She was also a longtime member of the Grand Island Elks, Liederkranz and Platt-Duetsche.
Lucille enjoyed coffees and social activities, playing cards and bowling with various groups in Grand Island and later in Loup City. She especially enjoyed and cherished her friends at Sherman Lake Homes, serving as the secretary of the Sherman Lake Homes Association for a number of years. She was a great cook and enjoyed sewing and playing the piano.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, John P. and Lucinda “Cindy” (Smith) Janulewicz of Loup City and Jerry and Rebecca “Becky” (Heltne) Janulewicz of Grand Island; six grandchildren, David Pielstick and special friend, Linda Pokorney of Grand Island, Nicole and Shawn Ackles of Cotesfield, Seann and Marc Julian of Grand Island, Devon Janulewicz of Cheyenne, WY, Darnell and Heather Janulewicz of Arcadia and Nathan Janulewicz of Las Vegas; seven great grandchildren, Ariana, Hannah and Jaclyn Julian; Mikayla, Kilee and Chance Ackles, and Zach Dillon; four step great-grandchildren, Cody and Cole Ackles, Cannon Osentowski and Claire Maline; and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Jack, she was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Roseann Pielstick; and sisters, Viola Jensen, Fern Guilford and Lilly Thornton.
Memorials are suggested to the Loup City Fire Hall Fund or the Bowman Lake Restoration Fund.
