Mary F. Stobbe

Mary F. Stobbe, 61, of Grand Island, died unexpectedly, Sunday, July 30, 2017, at her home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis Catholic Church in Ashton. The Rev. Richard L. Piontkowski will celebrate the Mass. Inurnment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church, with a 7 p.m. vigil service. Peters Funeral Home of Loup City is assisting the family. Mary was born on Oct. 19, 1955, at Loup City, the daughter of Hubert S. “Kuba” and Frances “Franny” (Czarnek) Stobbe. She grew up on the family farm near Ashton and attended Sherman County rural schools and graduated from Loup City High School in 1974. She lived in Grand Island where she worked for Delicious Foods which later became McCain Foods, where she was employed for 38 years. She was a member of the Catholic faith and was an active member of the Ashton American Legion Auxiliary, where she was a dedicated soup and pie maker for their annual soup supper. Mary loved spending time with her nieces and nephews and was a caregiver to all her family and friends, always going above and beyond with everything she did for others. She enjoyed puzzles,was an avid collector and loved to cook and bake for family get togethers and holidays. She also loved the farm and horses and was known by many as “Aunt Mary” or by her personalized license plates, “Kuba5”. She is survived by two sisters and two in-laws, Patsy Moraczewski of Pueblo, CO, Geralyn and Ron Carruth of Strafford, NH and Donnie Curlo of Boelus; six brothers and three in-laws, Tom Stobbe of Lexington, Chuck Stobbe and Jace Neal of LasVegas, Duane Stobbe of Plainview, Bill and Rose Stobbe of Grand Island, Tony Stobbe of Ashton and Jeff and Clara Stobbe of Ashton; 18 nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Kristine Curlo. Memorials are suggested to the Ashton American Legion and Auxiliary.
