Marlyn Juan “Butch” Vik, Jr., 72, of Omaha, died peacefully on Monday, March 14, 2022, in Omaha.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 2022, at the Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul. The Rev. John Doolittle will officiate. Military honors will be provided by Carl Mogensen American Legion Post 119 of St. Paul and the U.S. Army Funeral Honors Team.
Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is assisting the family.
Marlyn was born on Sept. 29, 1949, in Hills, MN, the son of Marlyn J. and Marian A. (Falken) Vik, Sr.
Marlyn graduated from St. Paul High School in 1967. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1970 and served in Berlin. He was discharged in 1972.
Marlyn was known to family and hometown friends as Butch, and to Omaha friends as Marley. He lived in Lincoln, Norfolk, North Platte and Omaha. Marlyn worked the predominance of his career in the food distributing business as a sales, supplier, and buyer. In later years he volunteered, worked and managed the VFW and Legion Hall in Millard, NE.
Marlyn enjoyed playing golf, cooking, music (particularly blues), watching police dramas and socializing with his friends and family over a good meal and pie.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Erin and Jennifer Vik of Omaha; granddaughter, Isabel Vik; brother, Tom Vik of Lincoln; sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Tim Shindle of St. Paul; nieces, Mandy Carr of Lincoln, Sarah Roehl of Lincoln and Katie and Brad Clapper of Bellevue; and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister-in-law, Christine Vik.
