Marie L. Andersen, 94, of Ord, formerly of St. Paul, died Thursday, April 4, 2019, at the Valley View Senior Village in Ord.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 26, 2019, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. The Rev. Mark Maresh will celebrate the Mass. Inurnment will be at 3 p.m. in the Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul.
A rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. the morning of the Mass at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the VFW Auxiliary Post 7029 in Ord.
Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is assisting the family.
Marie was born Dec. 13, 1924, in Ebensburg, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Ralph C. and Nettie (Chirdon) McCoy. She was the middle child of six children. She graduated from Cambria High School.
After graduating she moved to Philadelphia, where she worked at a care center. It was there that she met her future husband, who was on leave from the U.S. Navy.
She was united in marriage to Charles W. “Bill” Andersen on Dec. 31, 1945, during a blizzard in Ebensburg. The couple then moved to St. Paul where they made their home and raised their two daughters.
In 1949, the family moved to Ord, where they ran Andersen's Refrigeration business. Marie served as the secretary, bookkeeper and “hired help” for their business. They later returned to St. Paul, continuing their business.
Bill died on June 24, 2007, and that fall she moved to Ord to be near her daughters. She first resided at Parkview Village, later moving to Grandview Assisted Living and finally to Valley View Senior Village.
Marie was a former member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul; member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. She was also active in the VFW Auxiliary Post 7029, in Ord.
Marie was a homemaker that loved to garden and make crafts. She could do anything with a needle and thread, with quilting, being her passion. She was also very involved in the life of her daughters and their families.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Dale Melia and Barb and Chuck Benda, all of Ord; four grandchildren, Tad and Janel Melia of Ord, Tahma and Lance Kuck of Roca, Heidi and Dan Stoick of Watertown, SD and Scott Benda of Ord; and 9 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; and one brother and sister-in-law, Dick and Roberta McCoy of Ebensburg, PA.
In addition to her husband, Bill, she was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Dawn Melia; sister, Grace Kane; and three brothers, John, Howard and Paul McCoy.
