Mandeline W. Simonson, 91, of St. Libory, died Saturday, July 21, 2018, at CHI Health Saint Francis in Grand Island.
Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Norwegian Cemetery northwest of Worms. The Rev. Richard Kothe will officiate.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Worms.
Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is assisting the family.
Mandeline was born on May 1, 1927, south of Palmer, the daughter of William and Edna (Bader) Wichmann.
She received her education at District 45 Merrick County rural school. After her schooling she lived at home and she helped her father and uncles with farming.
She was united in marriage to Oliver L. Simonson on March 11, 1947, at Grand Island. The couple lived and farmed east of St. Libory, their entire married life. Oliver died on Feb. 21, 1996. She then worked at Wendy's and Arby's in Grand Island and later as a cook at the Beer Barrel Bar in St. Libory.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Worms and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 120 of Palmer.
Mandeline loved to crochet, knit, cook, bake, gardening and mowing her yard with her riding lawnmower.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Mick Tyma of St. Libory; four grandchildren, Doug Tyma and Julie Quednau, Kristi and Tony Sabin, Darin and Nina Simonson, and Tara Simonson; eleven great-grandchildren, Kendra and Neil Hovland, Kayla and Gary Stearley, Deanna Tyma and Tim Hogan, Derrick Tyma, David and Amanda Tyma, Dakota Sabin and Brianna Anderson, Lizzie Sabin, Aliece Simonson, Trisha Simonson, Natasha Soltis and Anna Beres; three great great grandchildren, Savannah and Izabella Hogan and Jameson Hovland; one sister and brother-in-law, Della Mae and Gene Boltz of Grand Island; and one sister-in-law, Yvonne Wichmann of Palmer.
In addition to her husband, Oliver, she was preceded in death by her parents; son, Dale Simonson; grandson, Lance Cpl David Tyma; great grandson, Anthony Sabin, Jr; and one brother, John Wichmann.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Norwegian Cemetery.
