Kay Suzanne (Shoemaker) Bradley, 64, of Renton, WA, died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2017, at her home, following a courageous nine year battle against cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Issaquah, WA.
Flintoft's Funeral Home of Issaquah, WA assisted the family.
A Liturgy of the Word service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul. The Rev. Rayappa Konka will officiate. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul.
Kay's family will be greeting friends at the church one hour before time of the service and at Sts. Peter & Paul Parish Life Center following the burial.
Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is assisting the family with local arrangements.
Kay was born on Dec. 5, 1952, in Freeport, Illinois, the daughter of John and Georgine (Havlik) Shoemaker. She spent her early years in Freeport, IL and Ralston, NE, before moving with her family to the family farm near Dannebrog. She attended Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic School through the 8th grade and graduated from St. Paul High School with the Class of 1971. In high school, she worked at Havlik's Grocery Store and Havlik's Locker, the family meat and grocery businesses. She attended Creighton University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in 1975. After graduation, Kay moved to Denver, and worked as a nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital where she met her future husband.
Kay was united in marriage to Daniel J. Bradley on May 15, 1981, at St. Paul. They moved to Seattle, WA where they lived their entire married life. This union was blessed with two sons, Nicholas Daniel and Samuel John. Kay worked for Alaska Airlines as a reservation agent and retired for health reasons after over 30 years of loyal service.
Kay was a member of Chapter DK P.E.O.
She is survived by her husband, Dan Bradley of Renton, WA; one son, Sam Bradley of Kirkland, WA; her father, John Shoemaker of St. Paul; one brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Zelda Shoemaker of Grand Island; one aunt, Martha Havlik of St. Paul; and two nieces, Lindsey (Niels) Meewis of Montrose, CO and Lauren Shoemaker of Omaha; Kay is also survived by one brother-in-law, George (Fran) Bradley of Orting, WA and one sister-in-law, Mary (Mike) McArtor of Cordova, MD; nieces, Julie Bradley of Tukwila, WA and Patti (Joe) Thibodeaux of Orting, WA; and nephews, Christopher Bradley and Daniel McArtor, both of San Francisco, CA.
She was preceded in death by her son, Nick Bradley; her mother, Georgine Shoemaker; and her in-laws, George and Julia Bradley.
Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Sts. Peter & Paul Parish Life Center or to the donor's choice.
