Jonathan J. “Jon” Baker, 35, of Ashton, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, at his farm near Ashton. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. The Revs. Ray Kosmicki, Mark Maresh and Marty Egging will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the church, with a 5 p.m. vigil service. Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Baker was born on July 11, 1977, at St. Paul, the son of Eldon L. and Elizabeth J. “Betty” (Kowalski) Baker. He is survived by his mother, Betty J. Kowalski of Loup City; his step-mother, Jane Baker of North Loup; his grandmother, Esther Baker of Loup City; eights siblings and spouses, Lori Ann and Darren Melching of White House, Tenn., Sheri and Alan Goodrich of North Loup, Pat Baker of Litchfield Park, AZ, Michael and Judi Baker of St. Paul, Tara Baker and Paul Snodgrass of North Loup, Cole Baker of North Loup, Shey and Paul Boyce of North Loup, and Josh and Summer Jess of Ord. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Jon grew up on the family farm northeast of Ashton and graduated from North Loup – Scotia High School in 1996. He then farmed and ranched on the family farm until the time of his death. Jon loved nature, hunting, fishing and raising his cattle. His heart went out to all children, especially his nieces and nephews and several other important children that were a part of his life, all of which he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his father, Eldon L. Baker; a sister, Theresa Baker in infancy; and his grandparents, Leo Baker and Steve and Margaret Kowalski. Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
