Ione G. Tuma

Ione G. Tuma, of Farwell, died Monday, July 21, 2014, at the Howard County Medical Center in St. Paul. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Peters Funeral Home in St. Paul. Pastor Al Magnuson will officiate. Burial will be in the Bohemian National Cemetery near Elba. A luncheon will follow at the Farwell Fire Hall. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Peters Funeral Home. Mrs. Tuma was born on May 8, 1929, at Becker, Minnesota, the daughter of Chester L. and Irene F. (Dilley) Zimmerman. She was united in marriage to Leonard Tuma on March 31, 1948, at Staples, Minn. He preceded her in death on Aug. 29, 2012. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Ken and Deb Tuma of Idaho Falls, ID and Clayton G. and Cinda L. Tuma of Farwell; two brothers, Ronald Zimmerman of Monticello, MN and Marvin Zimmerman of Einsingen, Germany; and one sister-in-law, Gustie Albers of Spokane, WA. She also leaves to cherish her memory, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. At the age of 2 years old she moved with her family to Big Lake, MN, where she attended the Salida School. In 1943, she moved to Staples, MN, where she lived until her marriage to Leonard. She and Leonard first lived in Grand Island until 1956, when they moved to Cheyenne, WY. She worked at Cheyenne Steam Laundry for 12 years. In 1982, the couple retired and moved to Farwell, where she ran an upholstery business until 1994. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Lemanuel Tuma; two brothers, Leonard and Lawrence Zimmerman; and one sister, Janice Benson. Memorials are suggested to Rose Lane Home in Loup City and Asera Care Hospice in Grand Island.
