Evelyn was born on Jan. 20, 1923, on a farm near Chapman, the daughter of Otto and Marie (Peters) Scheer.
Evelyn was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church and received her education at Zion Lutheran parochial school. She then helped her parents on the family farm.
She was united in marriage to Albert K. Kurz on Feb. 8, 1942, also at Zion Lutheran Church. The couple began farming after their marriage until 1945 when Albert was drafted into the U.S. Army. When he returned in February 1946, the couple purchased a farm southwest of Palmer, where they operated a dairy until their retirement in 2004. They then moved into Worms.
Albert died on June 30, 2015. Evelyn continued to live in her home until several years ago, when she moved to Primrose Retirement Community in Grand Island.
She was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church where she served on the Altar Guild and was involved in the Dorcas Ladies Aide. She also made quilts for World Relief and the Orphan Grain Train where she volunteered in several different capacities.
Evelyn loved raising her garden and beautiful flowers.
She is survived by her children and spouses, Dalbert Kurz and David and Kathi Kurz, all of Palmer; and Doris and Bill Klinginsmith of Grand Island; 8 grandchildren, Devon Kurz, Lance and Andrea Kurz, Jason and Erin Kurz, Christie and Russell Eilers, Bryan and Tara Klinginsmith, Bradley and Sayward Klinginsmith, Carrie Klinginsmith, and Preston and Amy Kurz; 25 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-granddaughters; and one sister-in-law, Janice Kurz of St. Paul.
In addition to her husband, Albert, she was preceded in death by her parents; son, Dennis Kurz; daughter-in-law, Jane Carol Kurz; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ervin and Lorena Scheer and Elton and Betty Scheer.
