Doug Lemmerman, 74, of Grand Island, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2025, surrounded by his loving family, at the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is assisting the family with arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.

Doug was born on Dec. 19, 1950, at Palmer, the son of William H. “Chuck” and Mary D. (Cady) Lemmerman. He grew up in Palmer where he attended Palmer Public Schools and graduated from Palmer High School in 1969. He then attended Kearney State College for two years and returned to Palmer to work at the family business, Lemmerman Feed Store and Hatchery.

He was united in marriage to Cathy M. Peters on Sept. 15, 1973, at Zion Lutheran Church in Worms. The couple first lived in Palmer and Worms before they moved to Cairo to operate the Blinker Bar for several years and then returned to the Worms area and in 1995 the family moved back to Palmer. He worked for Aurora Co-Op in Grand Island from 1984 to 2018. After retiring, he continued to drive fertilizer truck, part-time for Aurora Co-Op.

In 2020, the couple moved to Grand Island, where he lived the rest of his life.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Worms and the Sons of American Legion in Palmer. Anyone that knew Doug, knew that he was “One of the Good Ones”.

He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, hunting and golf. He was also a coin collector and loved listening to “Bob and Tom” and the local police scanner.

He is survived by his wife, Cathy of Grand Island; two daughters and sons-in-law, Heidi and Jerry Mendyk of Worms and Shayla and Donnie Kerlin of Grand Island; and five grandchildren, Rafe Mendyk, Riya Mendyk, Reid Kerlin, Graham Kerlin and Stella Kerlin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert W. Lemmerman; and his in-laws, Norman and Shirley Peters.
