Donnie G. Vogt, 81, of Dannebrog, died Monday, February 19, 2018, at the VA Medical Center in Grand Island.
Mr. Vogt chose to be cremated with no services. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date in the Oak Ridge Cemetery in Dannebrog.
Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is assisting the family.
Donnie was born on Dec. 21, 1936, on a farm northwest of Elba, the son of Samuel H. and Ivy (Frimann) Vogt. He began his education at Elba Schools and as a young boy moved with his family to a farm west of Dannebrog. He then attended Dannebrog Schools, graduating from Dannebrog High School in 1955.
He served in the United States Army from Feb. 13, 1957 to Feb. 4, 1959, serving in Germany. Upon his discharge he returned to Dannebrog where he farmed and began working at Redman Industries in Grand Island.
He was united in marriage to Jeanette M. Smith on Jan. 23, 1965, at St. Libory. He continued to work at Redman's until the plant closed in 1984, having worked there for 21 years. At that time he began farming full time.
He was a member of the Dannebrog Volunteer Fire Department for many years and a 30 year member of the Fire District Board of Directors. He was also a very active member of the Mickelsen-Larkowski American Legion Post 241 of Dannebrog.
He enjoyed golfing, was a Husker football fan and he and Jeanette enjoyed traveling.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Vogt of Dannebrog; and three sons, John Vogt of Axtell, Kent Vogt of Grand Island and Craig Vogt and Kellie Behrendt of Ravenna.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Florence Vogt.
Memorials are suggested to the Mickelsen-Larkowski American Legion Post 241 of Dannebrog.
