Donald L. "Don" Jarzynka

Donald L. “Don” Jarzynka, 80, of Lincoln, formerly of Grand Island, died Monday, March 11, 2019, at Independence House at Northview in Lincoln. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Marty Egging will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Island. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the church, with a 6 p.m. vigil service. Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is assisting the family. Don was born on June 10, 1938, at Loup City, the son of Peter E. and Philomena (Smedra) Jarzynka. He grew up on the family farm northwest of Ashton, where he attended Sherman County rural school, St. Francis Parochial School in Ashton and graduated from Ashton High School in 1956. After graduating from high school he lived in Omaha where he worked at various jobs and would return home during the Summer months to farm with his father. He later went into a farming partnership with his father. He was united in marriage to Mary Bisbee in 1970 in Greeley, Colorado. The couple lived in Grand Island where he worked at New Holland and Swift for a number of years. He was united in marriage to Mary (Dallman) Yost on April 3, 1984, in Grand Island. He was self-employed laying ceramic tile for more than 30 years and also worked as a custodian at St. Leo's Catholic Church for several years. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. In his younger years he enjoyed playing baseball and later watching baseball on TV. He also enjoyed gardening, yardwork and trading automobiles. The past several years he loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending their activities. He is survived by a son, David Jarzynka of Omaha; daughter and son-in-law, Carrie and Anthony Brison of Martell; five grandchildren, Avery Jarzynka and Kenny, Logan, Jessica and Julia Brison; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Tom and Donna Jarzynka of Grand Island and Dorothy Jarzynka of Omaha; four sisters and one brother-in-law, Isabel Szatko of Loup City, Alice Ann Lonowski of Alda, Geraldine Rewolinski of Omaha and Lois and Joel Reynolds of Omaha. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; parents; infant son, Jeffrey Jarzynka; brothers and sisters-in-law, Anzel Jarzynka and Arlene (Jarzynka) Janulewicz, Alvin and Rose Jarzynka and Virgil Jarzynka; sisters and brothers-in-law, Deloris Jarzynka, Elaine and Leonard Mostek, Clemence Ksionzek, Leo Szatko, Don Lonowski and Dennis Rewolinski. Memorials are suggested to the family's choice, Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church or the American Diabetes Association.
