Daniel was born on June 30, 1931, on the family's farm in rural Ashton, the son of Edward and Anna (Jerabek) Hurt. He attended country school and graduated from Ashton High School.
His faith was the foundation for his life. He proudly dedicated his life to being a shining star for Jesus. He taught Catechism classes for 16 years, and one of the highlights of his life was being able to pass multiple Bibles into Communist Russia. Daniel was a passionate Organic farmer. He loved the land, new born calves, checking the crops and pastures, and rain. He also enjoyed Polish music, dancing, young people and school sports.
He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Farwell, Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul and the Knights of Columbus Council No. 1918 of St. Paul.
He is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Arlene and Lyle Knott of Grand Island; several nieces, nephews and cousins, and many neighbors and good friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Louis Hurt; and sister, Agnes Kaslon.
Memorials are suggested to the Hurt family for later designation to some of Daniel's favorite charities.
