Dale F. Berst

December 20, 1933 — March 10, 2022

Dale F. Berst, 88, of St. Paul, died Thursday, March 10, 2022, at the Howard County Medical Center in St. Paul.

Memorial visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at Peters Funeral Home in St. Paul. The family requests that casual and Husker attire be worn.

Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.

Dale was born Dec. 20, 1933, on the family farm near Cushing, the son of Frank and Minnie (Hansen) Berst. He attended school in Cushing and graduated from Cushing High School in 1952.

He served in the United States Army from Jan. 1953 to Dec. 1955. He then returned to the Cushing area and farmed with his father.

He was married to Shirley D. Dunkelburger on March 20, 1964, at St. Paul. The couple later divorced.

Dale continued to farm with his son and grandson, the rest of his life.

He was a member of Carl Mogensen American Legion Post 119 of St. Paul.

Dale enjoyed watching Husker sports and loved feeding cattle, driving his 4-wheeler and supervising the farm.

He is survived by his son, Randy Berst and Jacki Bush of St. Paul; grandchildren, Jesse Berst and Cheyanne Hagge of St. Paul, Kelsey and Josh Scoggins of Grand Island, Jessica Berst and Dillon Spiegel of Kearney, Michael Berst of Wolbach, Josh Williams of Grand Island, Ben Berst of St. Paul, Addi Berst of St. Paul, Greg Czaplewski of Lincoln and Alyssa Czaplewski of Grand Island; great-grandchildren, Ava Berst and Baby Berst on the way, Rylan, Jhett, Bohen and Thea Scoggins, Greyson Spiegel, Paige and Pieper Berst, and Brooklyn Czaplewski; and his beloved dog, Boots.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jesse Berst; infant son, Robert Berst; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Florence and Wayne Williams and Frances “Tootie” and Clarence Klein.
