Catherine F. Eurek, 98, of Grand Island, died Monday, Aug. 10, 2009, at Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the St. Francis Catholic Church in Ashton. The Rev. Marty L. Egging will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in Ashton.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church, with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service.
Peters Funeral Home of Loup City is in charge of arrangements.
Miss Eurek was born on Sept. 27, 1910, at Petersburg, the daughter of John and Mary (Bandur) Eurek,
She is survived by one brother and two sisters-in-law, Steve and Ernestine Eurek and Marie Eurek, all of Loup City.
She also leaves to cherish her memory 23 nieces and nephews.
As a young girl, Catherine, moved with her family to a farm northwest of Ashton in Sherman County. It was there that she attended Schaupps country school. After completing her education she did housework for area families.
She later became the housekeeper and cook for Father Anthony Figlerski as he served Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Paplin and Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul, and the Grand Island Veterans Home. After Father Figlerski’s death, she continued to live in her home until three weeks ago.
She was a lifetime member of St. Francis Catholic Church and was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, while living in Grand Island.
Catherine enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking pies and playing cards. She was a deeply religious woman and her faith was very important to her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother Mike Eurek; and five sisters, Agnes Eurek, Josephine Eurek, Rose Eurek, Ann Shotkoski and Barbara Marvel.
Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Catholic Cemetery or to the donor’s choice.
