Bonita Kay Vejvoda, 68, of Grand island, died Friday Jan. 31, 2014, at the Good Samaritan Society – Grand Island Village, after a courageous battle with cancer. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Stolley Park Church of Christ in Grand Island. Minister Mike Reeves will officiate. Private family inurnment will be in the Wiegert Cemetery north of Grand Island at a later date. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church. Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Vejvoda was born on May 23, 1945, at Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of John C. and Dorothy I. (Niemoth) Hollowell. Bonita moved to Grand Island with her parents where she spent her childhood. She attended Trinity Lutheran School, Walnut Junior High and Grand Island Senior High. She was united in marriage to Larry L. Morse on Jan. 28, 1963, at Grand Island. The couple first lived in Grand Island, later moving to St. Libory. To this union two children were born, Bradley and Sheila. She was united in marriage to William E. Vejvoda on June 8, 1982, at Norman, Oklahoma. She and Bill enjoyed traveling and camping until his health declined. Bonita was his care giver for 12 years until his death on Oct. 30, 2007. Bonita worked in the family business, The Insurance Agency Center, Ltd. in Grand Island for over 37 years. Bonita was a member of Stolley Park Church of Christ where she was baptized on May 18, 2010. She enjoyed attending Ladies Bible Class, and becoming close friends to the ladies in the class. She was also a member of the American Legion VFW Auxiliary and served as the secretary for several years. She had a great loved for her Country and was always volunteering to serve the Veterans. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Annette Morse of Grand Island; daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Dan Barleen of St. Paul; step-sons, Scott Vejvoda of Florida and Mark Vejvoda of Lincoln; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Sharon and Jerry Bady of Grand Island and Mardell and Steve Larson of Funk; sister-in-law, Mary Hollowell of Grand Island; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gary and Linda Vejvoda of Grand Island. She also leaves to cherish her memory three grandsons, Brett Morse of Grand Island, Derek Barleen and Tyler Barleen, both of St. Paul; one granddaughter, Kaylyn Morse of Grand Island; two step-grandsons, Sean Vejvoda of Lexington, NC and Marshall Adams of Grand Island; two step-granddaughters, Jessica Adams of Omaha and Breanna Morse of Grand Island; and one great-granddaughter and two step-great-granddaughters; and her beloved dog, Tesla. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill; her former husband, Larry; and her brother, James Hollowell. In lieu of flowers and plants, the family suggests memorials be given to Stolley Park Church of Christ or GRACE Foundation.
