Barbara J. “Barb” Dvorak, 59, of St. Paul, died unexpectedly, Sunday, Feb. 24, 2019, at her home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul. The Revs. Rayappa Konka and Ray Kosmicki will concelebrate the Mass. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church.
Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is assisting the family.
Barb was born on Sept. 3, 1959, at St. Paul, the daughter of Robert A. and Marlene J. (Svoboda) Holt. She was baptized at the First Presbyterian Church in St. Paul and later confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in St. Paul.
She grew up on a farm north of St. Paul and attended St. Paul Public School. As a young girl she was involved in 4-H and Girl Scouts. She graduated from St. Paul High School in 1978, where she was active in pep club and school musicals. She then attended Kearney State College where she received her Bachelors Degree in Education in 1982.
She was united in marriage to Roger R. Dvorak on July 10, 1982, in St. Paul. The couple lived in Wood River where they raised their family. Barb worked at various jobs in the area over the years, including: Casey's in Wood River, Dandelion Daycare in Wood River, KDL and Noah's Ark in Grand Island, as a para educator at Shelton High School and as a cook at Wood River High School.
After being involved in a car accident in 2014, she became a full time “Zoom Grandma”, who would zoom to care for her grandchildren at a moments notice. In Sept, 2018, the couple moved to rural St. Paul, where she lived the rest of her life.
She joined the St. Mary's Catholic Church of Wood River in 1989. When her children were young she served as a Girl Scout leader and assisted with Boys Scouts. She was also a longtime member of the Wood River Fire Department and Fire Department Auxiliary.
Barb enjoyed sewing and was passionate about following the Wrestling teams of Wood River and St. Paul High Schools. She dearly loved spending time with her three grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Roger Dvorak of St. Paul; mother, Marlene Holt of Grand Island; children and spouses, Matthew and Karee Dvorak of Doniphan and Michaela and Eric Jackson of Oxford; grandchildren, Max Dvorak, Bryar Jackson and Bryant Jackson; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Christal Holt of St. Paul; niece, Brittany Holt of St. Paul; mother-in-law, Evelyn Dvorak of St. Paul; sister-in-law and husband, Sharon and Ken Zlomke of Lincoln; brothers-in-law and wives, Bob and Betty Dvorak of St. Paul, Ron and Julie Dvorak of St. Libory and Randy and Karen Dvorak of St. Paul.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Holt; nephew, Derek Holt; and father-in-law, Alvin Dvorak.
Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
