Audrey Thayer Christensen was born on July 29, 1932, in Greeley County, NE near Wolbach, the daughter of Bert and Emma (Houghton) Thayer.
She received her education at Logan School District N. 44 in Greeley County and graduated from St. Paul High School in 1949. After graduation she taught in Greeley County rural schools.
She was united in marriage to Harlan Christensen on Dec. 23, 1950. To this union three children were born, Jim, Kay and Jon.
Harlan and Audrey lived in Howard County on a farm until 1953 and then moved to a farm in Greeley County. They later returned to Howard County to farm and raise livestock. They owned and operated a feedlot near St. Paul and also Christensen Sand and Gravel.
Audrey worked on the farm and enjoyed gardening, yard work, raising her children and always had time for her grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking and having a “coffee break” with whoever stopped by. Audrey never missed an opportunity to witness for the Lord and express her beliefs. She traveled to Sweden with her granddaughter, Chelsa to visit St. Paul's first foreign exchange student, Ulrika Mellstig, who had lived with the Christensen family in 1972. Audrey was an encourager and often gave inspirational words of wisdom to her family and friends.
She is survived by her children and spouses, Jim and Jan Christensen and Kay and Fred Meyer, all of St. Paul, and Jon and Tara Christensen of Nashville, TN; eight grandchildren, Adam Christensen, Chelsa and Justin Cohen, Vincent and Emily Christensen, Chris and Ashley Meyer, Jon and Brittni Meyer, Jordan and Morgan Meyer, Petra Christensen and Sela Christensen; ten great-grandchildren, Traelin, Annie, Levi, Hayden, Tatum, Mostyn, Maclin, Max, Cade and Lainey; and one brother, Ernest Thayer of Grand Island; and many special nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harlan on March 9, 1996; parents, Bert and Emma Thayer; sister-in-law, Janice Thayer; sisters-in-law and husbands, Arlene and Dick Pedersen and Heloise and Dean Bresley.
Memorials are suggested to the Howard County Foundation.
