Albert K. Kurz

January 15, 1922 — June 30, 2015

Albert K. Kurz, 93, of Worms, died Tuesday, June 30, 2015, at CHI Saint Francis in Grand Island. Services will 10:30 a.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church in Worms. The Rev. Craig K. Niemeier will officiate. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Worms. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the church. Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Kurz was born on Jan. 15, 1922, in Merrick County, near Palmer, the son of Karl and Dorothea (Peters) Kurz. Both of his parents came from Germany. He was united in marriage to Evelyn A. Scheer on Feb. 8, 1942, at Zion Lutheran Church in Worms. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn of Worms; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dalbert and Jane Kurz and David and Kathy Kurz, all of Palmer; one daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Bill Klinginsmith of Grand Island; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Lorraine Liebhart and Ruth and Roy Peters, all of Grand Island; and two sisters-in-law, Janice Kurz of Palmer and Betty Scheer of St. Libory. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Devon Kurz of Grand Island, Lance and Andrea Kurz of Fullerton, Jason and Erin Kurz of Japan, Christie and Russell Eilers of Palmer, Bryan and Tara Klinginsmith of Grand Island, Bradley and Sayward Klinginsmith of Grand Island, Carrie Klinginsmith of Omaha, and Preston and Amy Kurz of Palmer; and 20 great-grandchildren. Albert was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church and received his education at Zion Lutheran parochial school. After he and Evelyn were married they began farming. He was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II, serving from Jan. 1945 to Feb. 1946. We he returned, the couple purchased a farm southwest of Palmer, where they operated a dairy until their retirement in 2004. They then moved into Worms, where he lived the rest of his life. He was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church where he served as an Elder, Trustee and Chairman. He was also a member of the Lutheran Laymen's League. Albert enjoyed farming, watching wrestling on T.V. and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Martha Kurz; son, Dennis Kurz; two sisters, Esther Frauen and Irene Kurz and an infant sister, Steinrich Johann Kurz; one brother, Walter Kurz, and three infant brothers, Otto, Karl and Henry Kurz; brother-in-law and his wife, Ervin and Lorena Scheer; and brother-in-law, Elton Scheer. Memorials are suggested to Zion Lutheran Church.
